2155: Why We’re Not Waiting
An in-kind donation from Outfront Media brings the gender pay gap timeline to Bay Area commuters.
Women still earn 82 cents on the dollar in San Francisco. At the current pace, the gender pay gap won't close until 2155.
That's not a typo. That's the timeline.
This month, thanks to a generous in-kind donation from Outfront Media, that number is impossible to miss.
A new digital billboard campaign is running in West Oakland and Berkeley, reaching commuters headed to San Francisco, Oakland, and the North Bay, along with weekend travelers on their way to Napa and Lake Tahoe.
The campaign, featuring Juthaporn, our Client Success Ambassador, is timed around Women's Equality Day on August 26, a day meant to mark progress, but one that also reminds us how much progress still hasn't happened.
A Timeline Worth Questioning
Women waited until 1920 to vote. Until 1971 to build credit. Until 1988 to get a business loan. Until 1993 for job-protected family leave.
Now we're told to wait until 2155 for gender equality. That's not a timeline. That's a warning.
And before that gap even closes, a new one is already forming. According to recent data from Lean In, women are less likely to use AI at work, less likely to be trained on it, and less likely to be recognized for it. The tools shaping the next era of work are not reaching everyone equally, and without intervention, today's gap becomes tomorrow's ceiling.
Why We're Not Waiting
For 20 years, Dress for Success San Francisco has not waited for these gaps to close on their own. Through career clothing, coaching, core skills, and community, along with Dress for Success San Jose, we've helped nearly 19,000 Bay Area women move forward, on their own terms, on their own timeline.
In 2025 alone, we served 1,345 Bay Area women. 52% secured employment within 45 days of their final coaching appointment. 90% of our Career Clothing clients reported increased confidence. These aren't just statistics. They're proof that access changes outcomes, and that outcomes can move faster than 2155 when the right support is in place.
A Billboard With a Bigger Message
You can spot the billboards in two locations: northbound I-880 near Market Street in West Oakland, and in Berkeley, along the east side of I-80, about 1,500 feet north of the University Avenue.
We're deeply grateful to Outfront Media for donating this billboard space and helping us put this message directly in front of thousands of Bay Area commuters every single day. It's one thing to talk about a pay gap in a report. It's another to see it in bold letters on your morning commute.
2155 is not a deadline we're accepting. It's a challenge we're already answering.
Closing that gap takes all of us, and we're so grateful for the support that's gotten us this far. If you'd like to be part of it, you can donate to 20Forward, our 20th anniversary campaign.
